Strokes and Glyconutrients Glyconutrients have shown promising benefits in lowering cholesterol and reducing free-radical damage that contribute towards strokes. Glyconutrients can lower and stabilize blood pressure Glyconutrients have immunomodulating effects i.e. they help to destroy viruses and bacteria that contribute to heart disease and strokes. A stroke is a blockage of blood flow to the brain. There are two types of strokes: 1. Artery blockage causes 9 out of 10 of this type of stroke. Ischemic strokes result from thickening of the arteries (atherosclerosis) as well as blood clot formation in the arteries. 2. Hemorrhagic strokes occur from a ruptured vessel in the brain caused by high blood pressure or an aneurysm. Mini strokes, which often go by unnoticed, may also occur. These may be responsible for subtle reductions in mental function. The nature of a stroke depends on where the stroke occurred and how much of the brain was involved. Strokes are the third most common cause of death in the west. In the U.K. strokes are responsible for approximately 130 000 disability cases every year. Strokes can occur at any age. The potential for strokes may exist undetected in many of us for years. Even young children were found to have cholesterol deposited arteries but for men and women after the age of 55 the risk is high. 80% of strokes can be prevented, so even though you may have a genetic predisposition to strokes, becoming well informed and taking good care of yourself may prevent disability and or death. KNOW YOUR HEALTH STATUS:
Doctors recommend anticoagulants such as warfarin (rat poison) and anitplatlet agents such as aspirin to thin the blood and lower blood pressure. These have side effects and may be interactive with other medications. Glyconutrients can do exactly the same, but without the negative side effects. Cordyceps and Reishi contain Adenosine, a nucleotide that is a structural unit of our DNA. Adenosine has blood thinning benefits and can reduce blood clot formation. Aloe and pectin glyconutrients also have blood thinning properties. Please note that you can NOT BE ON Warfarin and glyconutrients unless monitored by your GP. It is worth looking into glycomics when it comes to chronic disease and the radical medications recommended. A quote from MIT Technology Review February 2003 issue says: Stem Cells "Life is change, and I adapt easily to the new. I accept life - past, present and future."
